The Provincial Government continues its investment in safer, more reliable transportation infrastructure with the award of a $5.3 million contract to Trident Construction Limited for the replacement of the North Arm River Bridge on Route 90 near Holyrood.

The existing bridge has reached the end of its service life and was identified through routine inspections carried out by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure as requiring replacement due to its deteriorated condition.

The replacement of the bridge will ensure the continued safety and reliability of this important transportation link for residents, businesses, commercial traffic, and emergency services that rely on Route 90. In addition to the replacement of the existing bridge, the project also includes roadway improvements, demolition of the old structure, as well as a temporary bridge diversion to maintain traffic throughout construction. Maintaining access during construction will help minimize disruptions for motorists and local communities.

The bridge replacement was identified in the 2026-27 Provincial Roads Plan which reflects the Provincial Government’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving critical transportation infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. It also aligns with the Provincial Government’s platform commitment to safer communities, including safer roads.

Once complete, the new bridge will provide a durable, modern structure designed to meet current engineering standards and serve the region for decades to come.

“Replacing the North Arm River Bridge is part of our government’s commitment to improving road safety and building safer communities across the province. Since 1926, this bridge has served Holyrood and Route 90 travellers faithfully, but it has reached the end of its service life. The new bridge will give residents, businesses, commercial drivers and emergency services a safe, reliable crossing for generations to come. I’m pleased that a temporary bridge will keep traffic moving during construction.”
