Terms of use

1. What the platform is

The BuildNL (“the platform”, “we”) connects construction workers, employers and workforce partners in Newfoundland & Labrador. We provide profiles, job postings, matching, messaging and related tools. We are not an employer, a staffing agency or a party to any employment relationship. Decisions to hire, accept work, negotiate pay or end a job are made between workers and employers.

2. Accounts

• You must be at least 16 and able to legally work in Canada to hold a worker account, and be authorized to act for a business to hold an employer account.
• One person, one account. Keep your password private; you are responsible for activity on your account.
• Give us accurate information and keep it current. This matters more here than on most sites: your profile is your application, and a posting’s details drive every match score.

3. Worker rules

• Only list certifications, licences and experience you actually hold. Misrepresenting a safety ticket can put people at risk and will result in removal.
• Keep availability honest. Marking yourself “looking now” when you are not wastes employers’ time and affects the platform’s reply metrics for everyone.
• You control your visibility (see the privacy policy). Expressing interest in a job shares your profile and contact details with that employer.

4. Employer rules

• Verification: postings go live and messaging is enabled only after we confirm you are a real Newfoundland & Labrador business. We may ask for a business number, WorkplaceNL account or COR certificate, and may re-verify at any time.
• Real jobs only: every posting must be for a genuine, current opening with an honest start date, location, crew size and pay range where shown. Postings to collect resumes, “build a pipeline” with no opening, or satisfy immigration advertising requirements without intent to hire locally are not permitted.
• Still hiring: postings expire automatically. You must confirm a posting is still open when asked or it will be closed.
• The 3-day reply: every expression of interest must receive a status change within 72 hours. Employers with unanswered applicants may have postings de-prioritized or paused until the backlog is cleared.
• Respect: use worker contact details only for the hiring conversation they were shared for. No adding people to marketing lists, no sharing profiles outside your company.
• Lawful hiring: comply with the NL Human Rights Act, Labour Standards Act, OHS Regulations and all other applicable law. Postings may not discriminate on prohibited grounds.
• Seats: team seats are for people in your organization. Do not share a seat between people or companies.

5. Everyone

Do not: scrape, crawl or bulk-export data; use the platform to send spam or unsolicited offers; upload malicious code; impersonate anyone; post content that is unlawful, harassing or hateful; or interfere with the platform’s operation. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these terms, with notice where practical.

6. Content you provide

You own what you post. You give us a licence to store, display and process it to run the platform — including computing match scores, generating AI explanations and drafts for you, and producing aggregate, anonymized statistics. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for aggregates that no longer identify you.

7. AI features

AI-generated summaries, postings and coaching are suggestions. Review them before using them; you are responsible for what you publish. Match scores are deterministic and explained; they are an aid to judgement, not a guarantee of suitability. We do not make hiring decisions.

8. Plans and payment

• Worker accounts are free.
• Employer plans are described on the pricing page. Starter is free. Paid plans are billed per company, monthly or annually, at a flat price — no per-click, per-applicant or per-contact charges.
• You can cancel any time from Settings. Monthly plans end at the next renewal; annual plans run to the end of the paid period. Prices may change with at least 30 days’ notice; changes never apply mid-term to an annual plan.
• Taxes (HST) are added where applicable.

9. Availability and support

We aim for the platform to be available at all times but do not guarantee it. We may change or discontinue features with reasonable notice. Support is by email and the contact form; we answer within one business day, Newfoundland time.

10. Disclaimers and liability

The platform is provided “as is”. We verify that employers are real businesses and that certification data is self-reported with expiry dates; we do not independently verify every ticket, reference or claim, and we are not responsible for the conduct of any worker or employer, on or off a job site. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim related to the platform is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100 if you paid nothing.

11. Termination

You can close your account at any time from Settings. We can suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Sections 6, 10 and 12 survive termination.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Newfoundland & Labrador and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes are resolved in the courts of Newfoundland & Labrador.

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that affects your rights, we’ll notify you in the app and by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the platform after that date means you accept the new terms.
